OptiLight IPL treatment of Chalazion
Eyelid inflammation, leading to meibomian gland dysfunction and chalazion, can be successfully treated with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) without the need for local anaesthetic injections.
Summary
OptiLight IPL uses patented Lumenis Optimal Pulse Technology and is a precise new light therapy. It does not use laser and has very low risk. It uses specific light filters with specific wavelengths to treat specific skin conditions, including meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) and rosacea. OptiLight IPL is the only system with full FDA approval for the treatment of MGD, the underlying cause of chalazion.
The Process
As part of your chalazion assessment your consultant surgeon will determine whether you are suitable for OptiLight IPL treatment. If required this can be combined with Blephex which is a lid margin micro-blepharo-exfoliation treatment for added benefit.
An initial course of 3 treatments, spaced 2-3 weeks apart, is recommended for optimal effects in treating MGD and chalazion.
