Explore the hearing services we offer
Discover how our comprehensive hearing solutions can enhance your daily life
If you, or those around you, have noticed you are struggling with your hearing or you suspect or have noticed changes or deterioration to your hearing, it’s best to get this checked. A hearing test is a vital tool in determining your level of hearing and diagnosing hearing loss.
As an independent hearing clinic, we are dedicated to delivering outstanding service and treating all of our patients with the utmost care and understanding, whilst paying particular attention to your individual hearing needs. By completing an extensive assessment of your hearing needs we can work together to find your best possible solution.
The process
At MY Hearing Clinic we provide an in-depth and comprehensive hearing consultation with your audiologist taking the time to talk you through each step.
All of these elements come together to provide us with a clear picture of your hearing needs. Should your hearing test results show that you would benefit from hearing aids, we will recommend the best options to suit your lifestyle and budget.
Your appointment includes:
- An in-depth lifestyle assessment to help us understand your individual needs and requirements
- Examination of the ear and auditory canal
- A full audiometric hearing assessment including speech discrimination testing where necessary
- A full explanation of the results
Following your hearing test we will have an accurate diagnosis of your level of hearing loss and an understanding of your lifestyle. This paints a clear picture to ensure we select not only the technology you need to improve your hearing, but also the hearing aids that would meet the needs of your day-to-day life.
Our independence allows us to present a portfolio of hearing aids from all major UK manufacturers and as we are not affiliated with any one company we can carefully choose the best technology to suit your hearing needs, lifestyle and budget.
There are many styles of hearing aids available today. We help you to select hearing aids personalised to your specific hearing requirements and lifestyle needs.
- Behind The Ear (BTE)
- This hearing aid sits behind the ear with tubing running into the ear canal. These hearing aids are far slimmer and more discreet than they were in times gone by. The microphone element sits behind the ear and the receiver is connected via a thin clear tube situated inside the ear.
- Receiver-in-Canal (RIC)
- This hearing aid is a powerful yet discreet one that fits comfortably behind the ear. Unlike the traditional BTE (Behind The Ear) hearing aid, the receiver of this model sits inside the ear canal meaning the size is reduced.
- In-the-Ear (ITE)
- This device fits into the bowl shaped area of your outer ear rather than inside the canal. The slightly larger size allows for easy insertion and removal whilst still appearing discreet at a glance.
- Completely-in-Canal (CIC)
These hearing aids are among the most popular available. They are custom moulded to fit inside your ear canal which makes them almost invisible to an observer. The in-the-ear placement cuts out background noise caused by wind and other uncontrollable elements. - Invisible-in-Canal (IIC)
- This type of hearing aid is the smallest available. They sit deep within the ear canal and are invisible to observers. The close placement to the eardrum ensures immediate sound travel and less ambient noise.

Struggling with blocked, dry, itchy or painful ears? You may have a build-up of excessive ear wax. This can be quickly and easily resolved with professional ear wax removal.
MY Hearing Clinic offers the safest and most effective type of ear wax removal available – microsuction ear wax removal, performed by our highly skilled clinicians.
Take our little survey about ear wax removal
About Ear Wax
Ear wax (cerumen) is a natural substance produced by the ear which is important to our ear’s functions. Our ears self-clean with wax naturally being pushed out so generally, ear wax should be left alone. However, for some, excess build-up can occur requiring professional ear wax removal.
A build-up of wax can lead to pain and discomfort, and sometimes, slight hearing loss. It is important to remove any old wax that is causing these issues, removal can provide immediate relief.
Ear wax removal should never be performed at home. We understand it is tempting to try to remove the blockage using a small item such as a cotton bud but this can cause further damage and exacerbate the problem. Ear wax removal should always be performed by a professional in order to guarantee a safe procedure and effective results.
How we can help
MY Hearing Clinic offers the safest and most effective type of ear wax removal available – microsuction. The gold standard technique in ear wax removal, it is quick, safe, painless and doesn’t involve putting liquid into your ear.
Our qualified clinicians carry out microsuction with precision and accuracy using a gentle suction device, removing build-up and providing instant relief.
The process
This service is for adults ages 18 years and over.
Important Tip Before Your Visit: It’s always a good idea to use olive oil drops for a few days prior to your appointment. This is to soften any wax in the ear, especially if you are aware of a longstanding issue with solid ear wax build-up.
Your appointment will last around 30 minutes, however in some cases it can be much shorter than this.
We endeavour to remove all ear wax during your appointment. However, if this isn’t possible we will see you again free of charge.
Our trained professional will carry out a consultation with you to ensure there are no medical reasons why microsuction might not be right for you.
The clinician will outline any risks to having the procedure performed and discuss consent to treatment.
We will examine your ears using an otoscope, this special magnification tool allows us visibility to ensure the wax in your ears is soft enough to be removed using microsuction.
If the wax is soft, the clinician will gently insert the suction tube and probe into your ear to remove the wax.
Costs
If no wax is found to be present a consultation charge of £20 will apply.
- Microsuction Ear Wax Removal One Ear:
- £50
- Microsuction Ear Wax Removal Two Ears:
- £80
Risks
- Microsuction, performed by a trained professional, is the safest and most effective type of ear wax removal available.
- Potential side effects and benefits to the procedure will be discussed during your consultation.
- If at any point you feel discomfort or pain during your appointment, please let the clinician know.
- It is generally a painless procedure but can be noisy and some may find it a little uncomfortable at times.
- You may find that things sound a little different once the wax has been removed, this can depend upon the amount of wax build-up in your ears.
- You may notice a small amount of ringing or buzzing in your ears, but this should settle after a couple of days.

More than 70% of over 70 year olds and 40% of 50 year olds have some kind of hearing loss.
By 2035 it is estimated that there will be 15.6 million people with hearing loss in the UK, that’s 1 in 5 people.
On average, it takes ten years for someone to address their hearing loss.
Types of loss
- Sensorineural
- Hearing loss is caused by damage to the sensitive hair cells inside the ear or damage to the auditory nerve.
- Conductive
Hearing loss happens when sounds are unable to pass from your outer ear to your inner ear, often because of a blockage such as earwax or glue ear. - Mixed hearing loss
- Is a combination of both conductive and sensorineural hearing loss. This type of hearing loss may be treated most successfully with a combination of a hearing aid and medical assistance.
Degrees of hearing loss
During your hearing assessment, your audiologist will perform audiometry alongside an examination of your ears. From this, an audiogram will be produced and discussed with you. This is a hearing loss chart which marks your hearing loss and helps you to visualise your level of hearing in each ear. It is important to be able to understand the severity of any hearing loss present to enable you to find the best and most appropriate solution, this may include hearing aids to help alleviate the symptoms and improve the quality of your daily life.
The audiogram is a chart which displays the results of audiometry, with frequency (measured in hertz) running along the x axis and loudness (measured in decibels) running along the y axis. Each ear is measured separately with the results saved. This allows us to monitor your hearing moving forward.
The table below shows the hearing loss categories with a description of what you may experience day-to-day with your hearing.
Hearing Loss Category | Average Hearing Threshold Levels (dB HL) | What You May Experience |
---|---|---|
Normal Hearing | Less than 20 | Little to no hearing difficulties |
Mild | 21 – 40 | Difficulty keeping up with conversations, especially in noisy surroundings |
Moderate | 41 – 70 | Difficulty keeping up with conversations and understanding speech, especially when there is background noise |
Severe | 71 – 95 | Struggle to find some loud sounds audible, but with a hearing aid this is possible |
Profound | In excess of 95 | Struggle to find very loud sounds audible. Communication without a hearing aid is almost impossible |
If your hearing lies outside of the normal range, hearing aids can make social interactions and listening to music easier.
