Andrew Peel
Audiologist

Andrew is a qualified audiologist and has been registered with the Health Care Professions Council since 2002 and has extensive experience in private hearing provision.

Andrew qualified over 22 years ago and has been registered with the Health Care Professions Council (formerly Hearing Aid Council) since 2002. With extensive experience in both NHS and Private hearing care, he has received awards for outstanding customer service. He has also successfully mentored young Hearing Aid Practitioners to achieve high standards.

Appreciating the culture of My Hearing Clinic, he came on board in 2018 as our Clinical Lead and believes he has now joined a team where he is encouraged to deliver great customer service – his passion being quality care for each patient.

Married with an adult son, he enjoys tinkering with his vintage cars and writes a monthly column for a national car magazine. Spending the rest of his time wrestling with the garden, he enjoys reading military histories. He is a lover of all things French but has yet to master the language!

Dr Quentin Smith
Consultant Anaesthetist – MBChB DA DHM FCA FRCA

Medically qualified in 1988 and was appointed Consultant Anaesthetist in Sunderland in 1996 with a strong interest in ophthalmic anaesthesia. He has been lead anaesthetist for Ophthalmology at Sunderland Eye Infirmary for over 25 years and has worked with Site For Eyes ever since he started and with Minor Ops since it opened its doors. Professional interests are local anaesthesia techniques for a wide range of ophthalmic surgery, intravenous sedation as well as paediatric anaesthesia including paediatric cataract surgery. When time permits he can be found walking the fells of Northern England.

Mr Boyce originally trained as an engineer and worked as a research scientist before studying Medicine at Nottingham University Medical School. Mr Boyce completed his ophthalmology training at Newcastle Royal Victoria Infirmary, Sunderland Eye Infirmary and Manchester Royal Eye. He did fellowships in Oculoplastic & Lacrimal Surgery in University Hospital in Cardiff and Newcastle Royal Victoria Infirmary. Mr Doherty
Consultant Eye Surgeon with a specialist interest in Glaucoma

Mr Doherty undertook undergraduate and postgraduate medical training in Newcastle upon Tyne before proceeding to Ophthalmology specialist training in both the Northern and Yorkshire Deaneries. He subsequently completed an eighteen-month Glaucoma subspeciality fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. He was appointed as a Consultant in Glaucoma and Cataract treatment at Sunderland Eye Infirmary in September 2013.

Mr Ghosh

About
Saurabh Ghosh is leading consultant ophthalmologist specialising in refractive lens exchange and laser eye surgery in the North East of England. He specialises in lens based vision correction surgery with premium lens to correct distance and near vision, laser eye surgery, cataract surgery, corneal transplant surgery and other corneal surgery.

Mr Ghosh qualified in Medicine from University of Calcutta, India, and after obtaining his M.B.B.S. degree, he did the specialist registrar training in Ophthalmology in India which led to the award of a Diploma in Ophthalmology certificate. He was awarded the Gold medal for topping the Diploma in Ophthalmology exit exam.

He then joined the UK Specialist Registrar Ophthalmology programme and completed further training at:

  • Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle Upon Tyne
  • Sunderland Eye Infirmary, Sunderland
  • James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough

During his training he also did a TSC (Trainee Selected Component) in glaucoma at Royal Victoria infirmary, Newcastle.

After his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in ophthalmology he undertook Advanced Subspecialty Training (ASTO) in Cornea, Anterior segment and refractive surgery at Sunderland Eye Infirmary, during which time he also did an honorary part time clinical fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. During his training he initially qualified as a Member (MRCOphth) and then became a Fellow of the Royal college of Ophthalmologist (FRCOphth, London). He completed a further one year of Cornea and Anterior segment Fellowship at Leicester Royal Infirmary. He was appointed as a consultant Ophthalmologist at the Sunderland Eye Infirmary in 2014, where he has developed his busy Cornea, Cataract and Anterior segment work.

He joined Site for Eyes – private laser and refractive surgery unit from 2016 and over the years took over the role as the main Cataract, Refractive and Laser eye surgeon. He also joined the My Eye Clinic group at a similar time and developed a successful private cataract and Refractive surgery practice.

Saurabh Ghosh has over 20 years experience now as a practising eye surgeon.

Outside ophthalmology interest
Outside ophthalmology he has an interest in various culinary styles and enjoys cooking with his wife who is a General Practitioner in the North-East and his two boys. He is also a keen badminton player. When in India he also was involved in hosting a national television health quiz show.

He has a keen interest in various corneal graft techniques. He successfully built on the excellent reputation of Sunderland eye infirmary cornea services and developed and introduced newer types of corneal surgeries. He introduced and performed the first thin endothelial transplant – DMEK (Descemet Membrane Endothelial transplant) in the North-East of England. He is member of Royal College of Ophthalmologist, North of England Ophthalmology Society and United Kingdom and Ireland society of cataract and refractive surgery (UKISCRS)

Publications and Teaching
Mr Ghosh has regularly contributed to peer review journals and has contributed to the Book chapter on “Combined Procedures”. Yanoff & Duker’s Ophthalmology. He has made multiple national and international presentations as oral lectures, poster presentations and video presentations.

He also regularly teaches various corneal procedures including corneal transplants and is a core member of the Advanced Subspecialty Training in Cornea in the North-East to train fellows. Mr Gupta
B Med Sci., BMBS., MRCP., FRCOphth

About
Mr Gupta’s interests include diabetic retinopathy, vascular disorders, age-related macular degeneration and cataract surgery. He previously acted as the regional Diabetic Eye Screening Program lead for over 5 years and is currently the Head of School overseeing ophthalmic training in the Northern deanery.

Mr Gupta completed his undergraduate training at Nottingham University in which an intercalated degree was completed. Following his medical qualification in 1994, he has had a broad exposure to various disciplines including general medicine, obs & gynae, neurosurgery and acute and elderly care medicine. He spent time in Durban, South Africa, where whilst working in emergency care became passionate about ophthalmology. He is dual qualified in medicine having completed the MRCP and then undertook post-graduate ophthalmic training in Nottingham and Birmingham before completing a Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. In 2008, Mr Gupta joined as a consultant at the Newcastle Eye Centre located at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. He enjoys playing squash, cooking and making sough dough bread.

Mr. Gupta can provide a high level of care, diagnostic ability in general as well as medical retina eye conditions. He has a experience in performing cataract surgery using both monofocal and premium multifocal lenses in those patients keen to aim for spectacle independent. Care is provided to place individuals and their family at ease and provide understandable management options.

Mr. Gupta is able to provide verbal conversation and an explanation if preferred, of what is occurs during cataract surgery, thus avoiding silent surgery. He has a vast experience with more frail patients or those that need time and extra attention.

Mr Habib
Consultant eye surgeon with a specialist interest in retinal surgery

Mr Habib has a special interest in macular hole surgery, epiretinal membrane (ERM) surgery, surgery for vitreous floaters, and treating complicated cataracts.
He has wide surgical interests in the treatments of retinal and macular diseases, diabetic bleeds and retinal detachments.

Mr Habib has been a consultant ophthalmologist and vitreo-retinal surgeon at Sunderland Eye Infirmary since 2011.

Mr Habib’s special clinical interest in medical retinal diseases is in the management of diabetic eye disease and retinal vascular disorders and macular degeneration.

He is the lead for the digital surveillance diabetic retinopathy screening service.

Mr Habib has extensive research activities in the development of novel treatments and techniques dealing with artificial intelligence and retinal diseases and is an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Biosciences Institute, Newcastle University.

Mr Meredith

Mr Meredith graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2010 after receiving several prizes and a distinction in medicine and surgery. After undertaking junior doctor training at Addenbrookes’ Hospital he completed seven years of post-graduate Ophthalmic Specialist Training on the south coast of England including one year of advanced specialist training in oculoplastics in Portsmouth. He completed a further two internationally recognised advanced fellowships in Oculoplastic, Lacrimal and Orbital surgery at Cardiff and Manchester before taking up his consultant post at the Newcastle-upon-Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust where he is currently the Royal College of Ophthalmology Tutor.

Mr Meredith is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmology and a member of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society.

He is actively involved in education and training helping to run the Newcastle oculoplastic fellowship, enjoys teaching future surgeons as part of the Royal College of Ophthalmology Surgical Skills Faculty, and is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

He is active in research with multiple awards and papers published and is currently Principal Investigator for a number of trials of novel monoclonal antibody treatments for Thyroid Eye Disease.

Ms Anita Murphy completed her optometry degree from the University of Ulster in 2001. Anita undertook her pre-registration year at Sunderland Eye Infirmary 2001-2002. She has since continued to work there as a Specialist Optometrist within the NHS carrying out many areas of NHS optometry work including paediatric refractions, corneal refractions and contact lens fitting, diabetic screening and macular clinic workloads. She is a registered Optometrist for various research trials.

Ms Oswal

Kadambari Oswal is a Consultant Ophthalmic and Vitreoretinal surgeon. She performs complex/ high-risk cataracts and vitreoretinal surgeries including retinal detachment surgeries, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, diabetic delamination, traumatic cataracts, secondary IOLs, and other vitreoretinal procedures.

About
Ms Oswal completed medical school in 1999 and then completed a post graduate master’s degree in Ophthalmology from the prestigious institute of KMC, Manipal Academy of Higher Education in India. She worked as an assistant professor in Ophthalmology at the institute of KMC upon completion of her postgraduate degree, until 2005.

After moving to the UK, Ms Oswal did her early Ophthalmology training in East Lancashire Hospital NHS Trust. She then pursued her research interest and worked as an academic fellow at the Academic Unit of Ophthalmology, Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, Birmingham, under Professor P Murray and Miss S Rauz for a year in 2010. She then completed the run-through training in Ophthalmology (West Midlands and North-East Deanery) and was awarded the CCT in January 2018. Having developed a special interest in Vitreoretinal surgery with an innate surgical ability, she undertook a year of Vitreoretinal fellowship at Royal Hallamshire Hospitals, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and worked as Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon at County Durham and Darlington NHS Trust from 2019 – 2022.

She has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and is committed to teaching and training. Ms Oswal is the Clinical Supervisor for regional trainees. She is the lead clinical supervisor for an advanced nurse practitioner course with interest in Vitreoretinal surgery and maintains an active role in clinical research.

Ms Oswal is also an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

Richard Peppiatt has been an Aesthetic Practitioner for 16 years and is an Advanced Aesthetic Practitioner. Richard’s ethos in aesthetic medicine when visiting him for a consultation is to take a thorough medical and aesthetic history in which you will receive a thorough facial or body assessment of your concerns in which he will implement this into a plan of care. A cooling off period is always given to patients in which they can go away to digest the information before making a decision regarding treatment and care.

When having a treatment from Richard you will be given the appropriate after care advice and be followed up after your treatment. Each treatment is tailored to meet the individual need of the patient. Richard delivers a holistic approach to his patients in which he will continuously develop a plan of care to maintain their aesthetic health care needs for years to come. Prasanna Fernando is a fully qualified Hearing Care Assistant from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. Further training was taken through The Hearing Lab and he is fully qualified and insured to undertake micro suction ear wax removal.

Prasanna has over 8 years’ experience working with NHS patients holding aftercare clinics and also in the private audiology sector including, 5 years’ experience in micro suction ear wax removal. Within this period, he has provided professional hearing care to NHS and private patients. He has a very good understanding of the hearing aid field where he is recognised as a very caring person towards the patients.

Prasanna is a very passionate and committed clinician and is currently working at three private clinics around the North East providing wax removals and is still involved in the NHS audiology services.

Tafadzwa Young-Zvandasara MBChB (Dundee), MSc (Engineering), MIET, FRCOphth (UK), MAcadMEd is leading Consultant ophthalmologist specialising in Vitreoretinal and Cataract surgery in the North East of England. He specialises in Retinal surgery, Cataract surgery and Retinal conditions.

About
Mr Young is an experienced Cataract and Vitreoretinal Surgeon.

He treats retinal conditions such as macular holes and epiretinal membranes, retinal detachment, Trauma, surgery for complications of Diabetic retinopathy as examples. His interest and surgery also encompass vitreoretinal surgery for numerous other conditions. Mr Young carries out complex and routine cataract surgery including being sent and managing complications. He also has an interest in retinal conditions including management of diabetic eye disease. He was the Clinical Lead of a large diabetes eye screening programme between 2020-2023.

Mr Young carried out Fellowship training for Vitreoretinal surgery in Christchurch then Auckland, New Zealand. This provided excellent experience and fulfilled his ambitions of travelling and working whilst experiencing other cultures.

His medical degree was at the University of Dundee. He spent time in Glasgow, Derby and Wales for Ophthalmology Training. He also completed a Masters Degree in Engineering at Cardiff University receiving a Distinction. His Dissertation was on the feasibility of the ‘Bionic Eye’. This background has formed the basis of his research interests aligned with Engineering principles and Innovation. He is a visiting lecturer at Newcastle University. He has received several prizes and grants for his research with numerous publications and presentations at conferences across the World. He has authored a chapter in a textbook for trainee Ophthalmologists and contributed to numerous other textbooks and teaching materials. This desire to teach and reach a wider platform led him to take on a role as the section Editor for a prominent Eye Magazine for 4 years.

Mr Young is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

He enjoys playing tennis, sport, travelling, learning guitar and spending time with his family.
