Dr Innes completed his medical training at St. Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospitals before completing three years of medical training at the Royal London and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square leading to full membership of the Royal College of Physicians. He went on to complete higher specialist training in medical ophthalmology, specialising in ocular conditions associated with systemic disease and infectious and inflammatory conditions of the eyes and visual system at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. Following a fellowship in uveitis and medical retina at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital he has worked as a consultant at the RVI in Newcastle since 2013 excepting an 18 month Sabbatical working at the Zurich University Hospital and Augenklinik Wettingen where he ran retinal, macula and high volume general and emergency clinics between 2019-2021. As a medical ophthalmologist, he does not undertake cataract surgery but specialises in conditions of the retina/macula, optic nerve and inflammatory eye conditions and their associations with systemic health and disease.
