Can you have laser eye surgery twice?

Laser eye surgery can offer years of freedom from glasses. But what happens if your vision changes again?

It’s a fair question—and the answer is yes, you can have laser eye surgery more than once. But it depends on a few things.

Why would someone need it again?

Here are a few reasons:

  • Your prescription changes slightly over time
  • You had a high prescription originally and didn’t reach full correction
  • You develop age-related changes like presbyopia (reading vision)

Some people might notice their vision getting a bit blurry again after 5–10 years. This doesn’t mean the surgery didn’t work—just that your eyes have changed, which is natural.

How common are enhancements?

Enhancements (a second treatment) are uncommon, but they do happen—usually within the first year. We track your healing carefully to make sure everything’s stable before considering another treatment.

Sometimes we plan for the possibility of an enhancement, especially with high prescriptions. Our goal is always to give you the best, safest result.

Is it safe to do again?

In most cases, yes—as long as your corneas are healthy and thick enough.

That’s why we always:

  • Do detailed scans of your eyes
  • Assess your healing from the first procedure
  • Make sure the benefits outweigh the risks

We won’t recommend another treatment unless it’s safe and worthwhile.

Which types can be repeated?

  • LASIK: Can often be repeated if the cornea allows.
  • LASEK and TransPRK: Can also be repeated, especially if no flap was created the first time.

Each retreatment plan is personalised. We look at your original surgery, your current vision, and your eye health before making a decision.

Is the second time any different?

Not really. The process, preparation and recovery are similar. But we’ll take extra care to tailor the treatment to your eyes’ history.

Recovery may take a bit longer, especially if you’re having a surface treatment the second time. But most people do very well and enjoy long-lasting results.
