What Is Metatarsalgia?
Metatarsalgia is a term used to describe a pain that occurs in the front section of the foot. Metatarsalgia affects the metatarsals which are the bones connecting the ankle bones to the toes. They are a common source of pain because they support all your weight when you're standing, walking and running.  The main causes of metatarsalgia tend to be wearing unsupportive footwear, being overweight, conditions such as arthritis, gout, bunions and doing high-impact sports.

What You Might Experience:

  • A burning or aching sensation when walking
  • A shooting pain/tingling or numbness in the toes

How Can It Be Treated?
A Biomechanical Assessment would be advised so we could assess the condition and look at causes. Advice would be given on the correct footwear as well as pain relief and treatments to reduce the inflammation. Orthotics may be presecribed by your practitioner to provide shock absorption and change foot function.
