Mr Gupta

Mr Gupta has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Newcastle Eye Centre based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary since 2008. With a keen passion for learning he has a vast extensive training experience which he draws on to help his patients. He is dual qualified in Ophthalmology as well as Medicine and has gained fellowship skills in Moorfield’s Eye Hospital following core surgical training in Birmingham. He has spoken internationally on how to teach eye surgery and has over 15 years of teaching cataract surgery. In 2017 he published a textbook on cataract surgery and uses these skills to provide a high level of care for his patients requiring cataract surgery in a relaxed manner. Mr Gupta is able to provide discussion on a variety of lens options when providing for his patients surgical options. His other clinical interests include medical retinal diseases including but not limited to the management of diabetic eye disease, retinal vascular disorders and macular degeneration. He is able to provide options on general eye conditions as well as treatment for Yag laser capsulotomy. In addition to research and exam training experience, he has also acted as the Newcastle and Gateshead Diabetic Eye Screening Programme lead. Currently he is Head of School for Ophthalmology in the Northern region and has continues to help in National Recruitment for ophthalmology as well as roles within the Royal College of Ophthalmology.
